February Winter Storm

Heavy snow and high winds hit Virginia after a historic winter storm on Feb. 5-6 brought record snowfall and hazardous conditions to many parts of Virginia.

3:30 p.m. Update:

As of 3 p.m., snow is starting to increase in the northwest and northern portions of Virginia.  The Virginia Department of Emergency Management has worked today to support local government response to the storm in those areas.  For example, these assets have been sent to assist the city of Alexandria: 

  • 4 medics
  • 40 firefighters
  • Incident Management Team
  • Emergency Operations Center manager
  • 5 advanced life support units w/ 10 paramedics
